While the Dance-craze is day by day chipping away at the dignity of many a chart act, Lewis avoids such territory by serving up something edgy and progressive. Put simply, its Dance-Pop at its most “premium”.
Issues potentially arise, though, when considering how Eurocentric the cut is. Would a song or moreover a “sound” like this work in the US – Lewis’ next biggest market after home? There’s also the fact that lead single ‘Trouble’ resonated with many as being the “lane” Leona should play in – given how well suited and comfortable she seems there. With this track, though, much of the uncertainty that greeted last year’s ‘Collide’ resurfaces. Can Leona not just “own” such a sound, but also be successful (on a global scale) with it too? The months ahead will be very interesting.

GLOBAL singing superstar Leona Lewis says she has a desire to return to Birmingham to perform as part of a UK tour next year.
The 2006 X Factor winner was in the city yesterday to promote her new album, Glassheart, and said she hoped to get back on the road again soon following the success of her first tour two years ago.
She says: ‘‘I see myself going on tour but I’m going to have to see how the album goes and roll with it. I did my first tour was the best time I’d ever had so I’d love for that to happen again.’’
Glassheart is Leona’s third album and will be released on October 15 – almost a year later than originally planned.
She explains: ‘‘I had a provisional deadline but I was still in the midst of recording and didn’t feel like I’d got the crux of the album. So I kept going and kept writing and then I got Fraser T Smith involved, who went on to executive produce all the songs.
‘‘So it took a bit longer but it was for good reasons.’’
The 27-year-old Londoner, who has racked up more than 20 million record sales, says Glassheart has ‘‘moved on’’ from her first two long players, Spirit and Echo, which both topped the charts.
‘‘Musically, it hasn’t gone in to a completely new directly. It’s still a classic ‘me’ album with some big Whitney-esque and Mariah-esque (Houston and Carey) songs, that I love.
‘‘But there are elements in there of what’s going on now. It’s a bit influenced by Drake and the laid back beats that he has. It’s like a nice mixture of electronic and live instruments.
‘‘I’d say it’s the best album I’ve made yet. It’s very emotional, very consistent – a modern classic.’’…Read full article
