Earlier today we reported that Louisa Johnson has vowed to beat the X Factor Curse that has seen many of the winners flop within the first couple of years of their career. We know that Louisa is a MASSIVE fan of Leona Lewis, and Louisa has even credited Lewis for being the inspiration behind her auditioning for the new in the first place as she would love to emulate the same amount of success that Leona has had.

It goes without saying that Leona has been, by far, the most successful winner that has hailed from The X Factor over its history. Now could Leona Lewis help Louisa out by featuring on her debut album?

Well, if Louisa had her way it would more than likely happen. Hell, Ben Haenow had Kelly Clarkson feature on his debut single, so we’re sure that Syco could stretch to Leona Lewis for Louisa because we think the duet would be FIRE. In fact, Leona said that she really liked Louisa’s voice, so maybe it could happen. We’d love for it to go down. Louisa told The Sun newspaper: “The dream is to emulate Leona. She was the person who encouraged me to go on the show. She inspired me. I met her during rehearsal on Saturday.

“It was so weird, speaking to the person who made me want to go on X Factor. She said she’d seen me perform and she liked my voice. I wanted to be like her so much, I looked up to her and now I am here”.

She went on to add that she has wanted to be on the show for so many years, and to win it is a dream come true. As for what else Leona told her, Louisa admitted that she told her to just be herself.

“It’s literally the best advice, because it’s so true. You’ve just got to be yourself,” she admitted.

Louisa’s debut single – a cover of Bob Dylan’s Forever Young – is available to download now via iTunes.

Leona Lewis was in the studio late one night when a friend delivered some big news: “Stevie Nicks is here. I need you to get out of the studio right now.” What transpired next is the kind of transformative moment that changes a person’s life.

“I snuck in to where she and the rest of Fleetwood Mac were rehearsing for their world tour,” Lewis recalls. “The next thing I know, she was giving me a pep talk.”

We’ve all had pep talks from Stevie, but for us, that velvety coo most likely oozed out of a car stereo or echoed from a far-off stage. It’s an entirely different experience when she wraps her arms around you, looks you straight in the eyes, and says: “We need to hear your voice. We needed to hear your music.”

That chance encounter came at a time when Lewis — the titanium-voiced singer who exploded onto the scene in 2006 after steamrolling her way to the U.K. X Factor crown — found herself at a crossroads. After a seven year, four album run with Simon Cowell’s record label Syco, an emotional hand-written letter posted to Lewis’ Twitter and Facebook last September announced that she and her surrogate family were parting ways.

It was a painful decision for Lewis. After all, these were the people that took a timid theater kid from London’s hardscrabble Hackney, and helped transform her into a global pop superstar. But as Lewis tells it, something changed along the way. The label got too big, her relationship with Cowell became diluted, and when she was asked to record a cover album instead of one featuring her own material, it was time to cut ties.

Pop powerhouse Leona Lewis has become the voice of resilience. After wowing the likes of Simon Cowell on The X Factor, signing to his label and selling over a million copies of her 2007 smash “Bleeding Love” in her native U.K., Lewis is returning with  her fifth studio album, I Am, under her new home, Island Def Jam. The 15-track offering (slated to drop Sept. 11) is chock full of uplifting eargasms, exposing the ups and downs of love, relationships and life’s inevitable lessons, subjects Lewis knows a thing or three about.

The album’s first single, “Thunder,” leads the charge as a celebratory salute to self love. Its simplistic video serves as the perfect visual for the uplifting track. Dressed in a gorgeous, flowy black gown with her signature golden blonde and brown tresses, Lewis hypnotizes with her gray eyes before eye-pleasing nature filters. She also sings empowering lines like, “And I won’t wait any longer/ When you let me down, I got stronger.”

Now, the girl-next-door-turned-phenom has found her creative footing, scorching souls with music that mirrors life. VIBE recently caught up with Lewis during her recent New York City press run, where she discussed parting ways with Simon Cowell’s Syco Music label, signing to Def Jam and possibly dueting with unfiltered labelmate, Kanye West.—Angela Wilson

VIBE: Congratulations on your new album, I Am. What makes this album different?
Leona Lewis: Thank you! Reaching my fifth album is huge for me. It’s so cool. I feel like this album is coming from a very strong standpoint. I feel my other albums came from a more vulnerable place about relationships and breakups, and how you get through that. But this time around, it’s about a different subject, from a more empowered place. It’s a bit more stronger lyrically because of the things I’ve been through these last few years and growing up all makes for a stronger lyric.

You can definitely tell from your new single, “Thunder,” it’s personal.
It’s such a personal album. It’s very emotional. It’s me literally wearing my heart on my sleeve.
