GLOBAL singing superstar Leona Lewis says she has a desire to return to Birmingham to perform as part of a UK tour next year.

The 2006 X Factor winner was in the city yesterday to promote her new album, Glassheart, and said she hoped to get back on the road again soon following the success of her first tour two years ago.

She says: ‘‘I see myself going on tour but I’m going to have to see how the album goes and roll with it. I did my first tour was the best time I’d ever had so I’d love for that to happen again.’’

Glassheart is Leona’s third album and will be released on October 15 – almost a year later than originally planned.

She explains: ‘‘I had a provisional deadline but I was still in the midst of recording and didn’t feel like I’d got the crux of the album. So I kept going and kept writing and then I got Fraser T Smith involved, who went on to executive produce all the songs.

‘‘So it took a bit longer but it was for good reasons.’’

The 27-year-old Londoner, who has racked up more than 20 million record sales, says Glassheart has ‘‘moved on’’ from her first two long players, Spirit and Echo, which both topped the charts.

‘‘Musically, it hasn’t gone in to a completely new directly. It’s still a classic ‘me’ album with some big Whitney-esque and Mariah-esque (Houston and Carey) songs, that I love.

‘‘But there are elements in there of what’s going on now. It’s a bit influenced by Drake and the laid back beats that he has. It’s like a nice mixture of electronic and live instruments.

‘‘I’d say it’s the best album I’ve made yet. It’s very emotional, very consistent – a modern classic.’’Read full article

Leona Lewis, 27, famously won X Factor in 2006 and is now a multi-platinum selling superstar. Grammy- nominated, her single Bleeding Love was No 1 in 30 countries. Her experience means she knows what it’s like for contestants and she was a Guest Judge for the X Factor in the city where she first auditioned – London.

What was it like to be a Guest Judge on The X Factor?

It was strange at first as I’d previously been on the other side of the panel but I really enjoyed seeing first hand the talent that makes up the show.

What were the highs/lows of the day?

The highs were seeing some incredible raw talent, especially the guy singer/songwriters and some of the female power houses we found.

Would you have liked to become a full time Judge?

I think one day it would be great to really mentor and work hands on with the talent.

What was it like working with the other Judges?

There was a great synergy on the panel. Gary is so respected and lovely, Tulisa is so talented and passionate and Louis has a great eye for potential.

Who was your favourite Judge?

I love Gary!

Do you think you saw anybody with The X Factor on the day?

For sure, the London audience were great and I can’t wait to see how the talent progresses.

The X Factor returns to ITV1 this Saturday. Are you excited? Are you looking forward to seeing Leona in her judging debut? Leave your comments below….

Leona Lewis has spoken of her “terrifying” ordeal at the centre of last year’s England riots.

The ‘Collide’ singer barricaded herself in her Hackney home as civil unrest broke out in the borough after the shooting of Mark Duggan by police during an attempted arrest in Tottenham.

Speaking on the first anniversary of the riots, which also occurred in other major cities nationwide, Lewis told The Sun: “I was worried about what would happen to the people who had their businesses and homes damaged.

“My parents both live in Hackney too and my dad was supposed to bring a CD round to my house that night. He rang me and said, ‘How badly do you want this CD, because I’ve just seen a Mini (car) get a petrol bomb thrown at it?’ I told him to go home straight away.

“The pictures on the news and in the papers were terrifying and it just kept rolling on. Seeing the pictures of the violence, looting and rioting made you think it was just totally out of control and the police were overwhelmed.”

Lewis previously blamed the riots on “hoodrats getting totally out of control”, saying: “I don’t think there was any motivation behind it other than to cause trouble ‘cos they’re bored and want free stuff.”

Fraser T Smith is overseeing production of Leona Lewis’s entire next album, making it the first time a producer has worked across one of her releases.

The co-writer of Adele’s Set Fire To The Rain and Taio Cruz’s Break Your Heart told Music Week that, while other producers were working on what will be in Glassheart her third studio set, he was taking a production role for the whole album as well as co-authoring about half its tracks.

This approach is entirely different to Lewis’s first two albums Spirit and Echo, which were littered with different songwriters and producers across their tracks, among them Max Martin, Dr Luke, Stargate, Ryan Tedder and Steve Mac.

Smith suggested having one producer overseeing everything would result in Lewis “making an artist album rather than it being a collection of songs”.

When having a mixture of producers for one album he reckoned “you end up with maybe two or three radio songs and not necessarily the album sales you want”.

“It’s been amazing,” he said. “It’s been a great challenge to come up with a vision at the beginning of how we wanted it to sound and I hope to be able to do more projects like that in the future.”

“People have preconceptions of what Leona is so you want to keep the essence of that and keep pushing the boundaries,” added Smith who is signed to Sony/ATV Music Publishing.

He revealed the Syco album, which has been given a release date of November 26, was now about 80% finished. “We’ve got the key tracks and we’re very close. She’s done some fantastic vocals and is making a very relevant record and a very important record for her. The songs are really strong,” he said.
